Understanding SPCA Selangorβs Impact
SPCA Selangor is a well-established, non-profit animal welfare organisation founded in 1958. Based in Ampang Jaya, the shelter currently cares for over 90 dogs and 30 cats (as of June 2025).
Despite its noble mission, SPCA faces real challenges:
- An estimated 120β150 animals are illegally dumped at their premises each year.
- Around 70β120 pets are surrendered annually by owners who can no longer care for them.
- Monthly operational costs for food, medical care, shelter maintenance, and staffing total between RM80,000 to RM100,000.
SPCA team runs adoption programmes, affordable neutering initiatives, and awareness campaigns like Potong Royong (community-based mass sterilisation drives) and Neuter Your Ex, a creative way to encourage public sponsorship of neutering procedures in the name of someone they want to “dedicate” it to.
Why July Is a Turning Point
Paws in Needs is more than timing, its impact. Through the BATERIHUB CARES: Paws in NeedsΒ campaign, a portion of revenue from the sale of selected batteries will be donated to SPCA Selangor.Β
These funds will go directly toward:
- Spay and neuter initiatives like Potong Royong and Stray Free Selangor (SFS) are among SPCAβs most impactful programmes, playing a key role in reducing the stray animal population.
- Medical treatment and vaccinations
- Daily food and nutrition
